Due to being a postgraduate student it has been a long time since I read for fun, meaning that my to-be-read pile has become enormous. Below is the books I actually own that I need to read there are plenty that I am waiting to buy thanks to book-tube.
I have read about three chapters of the Game of Thrones, the first book in the series A song of Ice and Fire, so really want to read the whole series. I will not watch the TV series until I have read the books so need to get on these.
I love the way Lian Hearn writes , so cannot wait to carry on with the Tales of the Otori series. I also want to start the Night Watch series by Sergei Lukyanenko but need to buy the first book first.
The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy is obviously something I want to read, ever since watching the film I have wanted to read this series, I ended up buying all the books in one massive omnibus (is that used for books? I’m not sure).
Gone Girl is a contemporary classic now. I have read about four chapters of this book, but I found it hard to get through it, so going to try again another time.
Thomas Harris’ Red Dragon is the book that the TV series is based on so really want to read this one.
Necroscope is a 80’s sci-fi about a certain type of psychic that can hear the thoughts of the dead and even control them.
I am reading Peter Pan for the first time, I have gone through 3/4 of the book so far and it is so deranged and weird.
I am also half way through Big Magic which is about how to live a creative life.
Dead If I do was a present I had for Christmas, I have the first book and really enjoyed it so wanted the second, sadly this is the fourth so need to get the other books before reading. It is a about a witch who’s ex-boyfriend is a vampire, is friends with werewolves, has a dangerous past, and ends up getting involved with a scientifically turned vampire. Yeah!
Girl With A Dragon Tattoo is self-explanatory, I tried to read it a couple of months ago and found it hard going, the language used is quite complicated, could be due to the translation. So need to take my time with it.
Smoke Gets in Your Eyes, is from a YouTuber but a YouTuber who owns and runs her own crematorium in America. The book is a memoir of her experience of training and working in the funeral business, as one of the rare females. I find her channel really interesting so as soon as this book was out in the U.K I immediately bought it.
Sylvia Plath’s Ariel, Anais Nin’s Henry and June, Invisible Cities, In Praise of Shadows, William Blake’s poetry, and Nature I bought due to me wanting to read more poetry, classical’s, memoirs, biography’s, and art.
I wish to re-read the Hobbit and Lord of the Ring’s and wish to read for the first time the Silmarillion and The Legend of Sigurd and Gudrun, which is the only book that is from the new print the others I inherited from my father.
Lastly is the classical books I wish to read or re-read:
- William Shakespeare’s complete works
- Dracula and other Tales by Bram Stoker
- Edgar Allan Poe the complete tales and poems
- The count of Monte Christo by Alexandre Dumas
- Dante’s Divine Comedy
- Robert Burns Poetry Collection
- Lord Byron Poetry Collection
- T.S Eliot selected poems
- Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson
- Frankenstein by Mary Shelley
- Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carol
- Great Expectations by Charles Dickens
Like I said there is a lot of books on this list and there are always new books being published so there will always be more added on.
Just thought I would give you a look at what I will be reading for fun the next year (lol)
